OK I have another weapons question for MMX or anyone else who can answer this. If you wanted to replace the body of a rifle to make it lighter, what kind of materials could you use for the construction? (I'm assuming the standard body of an M24 is wood and iron, right?) I already have a few semi-fictional ideas which I've included but its nice to find out how its done in the real world.

Well, I honestly have to say that I do not know any case where anyone redesigned his gun to make it lighter. You can have new bodies and kits, like the M14 EBR (which is actually heavier than the original M14), but I do not know any kits for en M24. Well, there are enough hunters out there, there should be kits... I guess, you could install a lightweight carbon stock or make the cheek rest hollow (like the russian Draguniv Sniper Rifle). You have to see, that a lighter rifle makes the recoil more noticeable. The gun is driven out of the target more easily. You have to find a compromise between sturdiness and weight.

Thanks for that! So a lighter rifle will result in a heavier recoil? Hmmm... looks like I'll have to twist reality on this one and make something up to compromise for the recoil.

You should look at the innovative muzzle break of the Light Fifty. It uses the expeled gas to reduce recoil by creating a "jetstream" into a direction wich is directly contrary to the recoil of the gun. Maybe you (resp. Anaksha) can use that little piece of equipment. You can also put sandbags on the gun. Since the M24 is a bolt action rifle and there are no moving parts during the shot itself, it should be able to take it. You just have to care that the bags do not block your line of sight. Damn, I write like a firstgrader. Must be the fact that I have written many pages in my first language today...three edits in one post just because of typos, that sucks. Black Sun, I´ll answer your PM tomorrow.

Hmm, a couple new assault rifles use something called "recoil revectoring", not the foggiest if it's applied to bolt-action pieces, but should work in theory. The recoil is largely forced downwards - into the biped in the case of a sniper rifle. Should cut down on losing the firing solution. Just a thought - I'm visiting a friend of mine tomorrow - he's a weaponsmith *muahaha -EDIT: He said it could be done, but it wouldn't be worth the hassle - it's a .308, after all, not too much recoil to begin with.

Just a suggestion, but would you be interested in giving her a Bi-pod for the support? Because if you do, you could lighten the weapon some, and compensate for the recoil and aiming with a bi-pod.

So far all she seems to do is stablise herself via her posture (i.e: kneeling, etc) All the weapon lightening is done via upgrades.

OK. Will she only have 1 gun, or will she get another one or two as the game progresses?
